DJI Phantom 3 Professional and Advanced : Review

The DJI Phantom 3 Professional and the DJI Phantom 3 Advanced are drones produced by the same manufacturer, with performances similar to the less-expensive model such as the DJI Phantom 3 Standard but better, which at first glance may escape. To justify the price most obviously will be hardware and improved features, since externally you will see little else, they are all very similar.

Of course, the DJI Phantom 3 Advanced and the DJI Phantom 3 Professional have a pre-installed video camera, which will allow you to take photos and record videos at a resolution of 2.7K and 4K, depending on the model you choose. Now just talk, it’s time to start!

The two quadcopter in question were the first to be placed on the market. Since then, they have received a number of approvals from all over the world of drones, thanks to their flexibility, ease of use, durability and quality.

As usual, by purchasing a drone from the DJI home, you will enjoy all its conveniences, such as the ability to take it out of the box and put it on the track right away. You will not need to calibrate it or set it because it will be ready for use and fly to your command.

They are among the most common and common drones, and several producers use them in film shooting because of their particular stability during flight, a unit of precision in motion.

Design

DJI Phantom 3 Professional and DJI Phantom 3 Advanced are aesthetically equal and differentiated by the color of the bands on the four arms supporting the quadricopter rotors and propellers. For the Advanced model, the colored bands will be of silver color, while for the gold-colored professional. You can already look at them on their respective pages in the Amazon store

They are entirely made of ultra-light white plastic, which has grooves to allow components that tend to overheat, such as batteries or electric motors, to cool down, to avoid possible damage to the drone itself.

For industry maniacs, the DJI Phantom 3 Professional and DJI Phantom 3 Advanced, they have perfectly vertical rotors, with the least-expensive standard of the Standard that are slightly inclined.

There is no doubt that, this little detail can affect the quality of flight drone and improve its performance. All in all, the DJI quadcopter at first glance, leave a positive impression thanks to their soft, no sharp edges.

On the front, you can easily notice a small nameplate that indicates the name of the model you choose. For the professional model, you will have the gold color plate, while for the advanced will be silver, just like the colored bands. For both drones, you can also notice a small door that covers a mini USB port, which will be useful for you when you download your shots or recordings made.

This is not all, because it still has the mini USB port installed below the nameplate. DJI always updates its quadcopter, and thanks to it you will be able to upload the new firmware upgrade. Below the belly of the drone, there is the gimbals with 4 cushioned cushions, which even during the toughest landings, will be able to protect your camera from even the most extreme vibrations.

As usual, for any drone that respects, the microSD card slot is also placed on the camcorder, so you can save on your favorite recordings and shots. Unlike many commercial models, DJI drones have strange shoes. Having the camera outside the drone body and attached by the gimbals under the belly, in order to protect it well and prevent damage, have been stretched.

Technical Features

They are drones designed primarily for filming, but given the great success, DJI has decided to extend the sale to the public as well. Phantom 3 Professional and Phantom 3 Advanced can offer you a truly TOP performance in their industry, and if you decide to bring home one, your choice will be greatly reimbursed.

Now you can start to peek into the technical features of the two models. They are very different from each other, even if they do not look like they look.

Physical characteristics

The Droni DJI Phantom 3 Professional as well as the DJI Phantom 3 Advanced weighs exactly 1,280 grams and has a diagonal of 350 millimeters. Thanks to the power of its rotors it is able to rise in the air at a speed of 5 m/s and to return to the ground with 3 m/s of speed.

According to the manufacturer, it is able to fly at a speed of 16 m/s, making some calculation of about 58 km/h, in the absence of wind. You can see these data clearly on the drone application during the flight, which you will see and know better later on in the review.

It can rise to a height of 6,000 meters above sea level, and a battery charge will last about 23 minutes. Even the temperature can definitely affect their operation, they are designed to withstand 0° C to 40° C. Be careful when you go to the mountains.

Unlike the cheaper Standard model, Droni DJI Phantom 3 Professional and DJI Phantom 3 Advanced have a dual GPS device that works perfectly even in closed environments. This system is called GLONASS.

Built-in video camera

What differentiates the DJI Phantom 3 Professional from the DJI Phantom 3 Advanced model is just the standard camera installed on both quadricoters. The real difference between the two drone models is in the maximum resolution with which they can record videos. The DJI Phantom 3 Professional can reach a resolution of 4K, or 1440p up to a maximum of 25 fps.

It also supports Full-HD and HD resolutions, where it can safely record at 60 fps. The DJI Phantom 3 Advanced can get to a maximum of 2.7K which may look the same as the standard model, but if you look at the technical specifications, it can be noted that it can get up to 60 fps.

You can have more fluid videos and shoot faster without having any kind of lag. For the rest of their technical characteristics, they are practically the same. Both models feature a 12-megapixel cam, with 12.4 million effective pixels.

The lens of this integrated camera captures up to 94° in amplitude, thanks to its 35mm sensor, which would be equal to a f/2.8. Thanks to the morphology of the lens designed by DJI, you can have perfect videos and without the classic distortion of the image that you have on the sides. If you are a lover or a professional, you will be happy to learn that you can save your files to JPEG or RAW.

Battery

The battery and its life in a drone are very important. They allow you to use your favorite quad-bike for a longer period, and sometimes it’s always better to buy a spare, so you do not have to wait for recharge time before you can start flying again.

For both models are equal and have a capacity of 4,480 mAh and a voltage of 15.2V.

They are of the Lithium Metal batteries, a technology that guarantees a greater discharge power. They can deliver a power of 68Wh and weigh exactly 365 grams. The maximum charge power is 100W.

Radio Control

Unlike many drones that are on the market, DJI has thought to give its fans a really nice radio remote control. It’s all white like a quadcopter, and has two antennas, unlike the Phantom 3 Standard, as it works on 2.4 GHz frequencies and also reaches greater distances without losing signal.

The radio remote control supplied with the DJI Phantom 3 Professional and DJI Phantom 3 Advanced models can reach up to 5,000 meters away from you, without loosing the signal, 5 times as much as the cheapest model. It uses 6000 mAh of Lipo 2S batteries, and the ability to attach a tablet or smartphone to watch your camcorder.

As I said before, the controller is quite different and has many more features than the smaller controller of the Standard, which uses the DJI Go application to reduce the gap between the two devices in management.

Thanks to the remote control of this drone you will be able to :

  • Turn the radio control on and off using the key on the left, holding down.
  • Take snapshots and record videos using the keys on the back.
  • You can adjust the tilt of the camcorder, and not only the cams placed on the back.
  • Connect a smartphone or tablet that you can use with a micro USB cable to connect to live streaming and more.

If I can give you advice, do not cross the two antennas of DJI Phantom 3 Professional or DJI Phantom 3 Advanced, you may decrease the range of action. Always remain perpendicular to the ground and well directed towards the drone.

In addition to everything you’ve just said, you can use some very interesting features on your drone, which will make life easier for you.

  • Follow me : classic functionality, with which the drone will follow you wherever you go, at least until or at the end of the b and c.
  • Point of Interest : You can set up a GPS coordinate, and your drone by DJI will continue to rotate around with the ability to shoot or take pictures.
  • Ground Station Mode : you can set a repeat path to the loop, and your drone will follow infinite times. This feature is for those who want to maximize the performance of the camera, improving accuracy and quality.
  • Home Lock : Lost Your Quadricopter? No fear, because by directing the right lever of the radio remote control down, the drone will come back to you. Just make sure you do not have any kind of barrier in the middle, otherwise you will get banged by hurting yourself.
  • Perspective Block : The hardest part in driving a drone is to direct the body together with the camcorder. Thanks to this functionality you will not need to do so, because it will move in the direction, you want without taking into account the rotation angle. It is very useful for beginners.
  • Geofence : When you do not want to go beyond a certain limit, such as a place with several people, you can trigger a kind of virtual barrier beyond which your drone will not go.

DJI Go application

DJI Phantom 3 Professional and DJI Phantom 3 Advanced, but also for the cheapest models. You can download the DJI Go application on your smartphones and tablets, which, thanks to its features, will allow you to extend and Not least the functionality of your drone.

As you can see from the image, thanks to its simple and intuitive graphical interface, you can gather a lot of information while flying the drone. You will be able to know the speed at which you are going the height, and even the distance from you so you will be sure you will never miss the signal with the drone due to the distance from the radio remote control.

You will also see clearly the battery remaining, the quality of the video, and how much your memory will be saturated to avoid being left without GB. A small radar-shaped map will show you the direction of the drone compared to you so you can fly it better.
